Abundance of choices

Elite education model

The British education system aims to cultivate creativity, analytical ability and research skills in order to develop students’ critical thinking and ability to challenge established concepts, as well as the ability to work together to solve difficult problems. While it is the goal to enhance academic achievements and language skills, students also have the opportunity to practice innovation and independence, giving them a better foundation for their future careers.

Economically efficient

It only takes three years to complete a bachelor’s degree in the UK, while it takes four years in most other places. Without that fourth year, a lot of time and money can be saved. Also, with a degree from a UK university, it becomes much easier to progress to a postgraduate course anywhere in the world.

Culture and language

Home of the English language, the UK is therefore the most authentic environment to learn English like a native. Students studying language can concurrently delve into Europe’s rich culture and history, and experience first-hand all the local customs.

A progressive society

The UK is in the top 10th largest economies in the world, with improved attitudes towards discrimination and decreasing social unrest. Strict anti-gun laws and effective policing, along with friendly and welcoming locals, make it a suitable place for young students to live and learn.

Pre-U (short for Pre-University) programmes are preparatory courses for students who have graduated from high school and wish to attend university in the UK. Pre-U programmes include A-Levels and Foundation programmes. In order to enter your first year at any UK university, you are required to complete a Pre-U programme.

A-Levels or Foundation Programme?

The two most popular Pre-U programmes are compared in the table below
a-levels vs foundation programs

A-levels

If you have an excellent command of academic English and you are aiming for Top UK Universities for your undergraduate study, you can be confident to apply for A-levels. It is an ideal option if you are not sure of your chosen subjects as you can opt to study a mix of subjects including Science, Art and Business. Completing A-levels assures your path to UK higher education.

A-levels are offered by all UK public colleges for high school graduates with outstanding English. There are two intakes only: January and September with a significantly higher failure rate. Therefore, some UK universities only accept A-levels qualifications for subjects like Medicine.

Foundation Programs

Designed specifically for overseas/ international students, Foundation requires much lower level of English. Foundation courses provide international students with the right qualification to get into universities the easier way. Less subjects is also one of the advantages. There are also English and study-skills support modules included in these Foundation programs. They are offered at international colleges and pathway providers who are partnered with certain universities.

Not all of the international colleges assure access to the university campuses and facilities. However, if you do a good research before applying, you can find a lot of these foundation courses are based within university campuses, which means you’re also entitled to use university’s facilities.

Unlike A-levels, there are up to three intakes per academic year: January, June, September with higher completion rate. This also explains why only a number of universities accept students with foundation onto their programs.
